Automated Collection

Automated Collection Service

What is automated trash collection?

Automated pickup is the most advanced collection system available today. C. Martin Trucking was the first independent hauler in Medina and Wayne Counties to implement this system as part of our residential trash collection services.

Automated trash collection is a system where waste is placed in the cart then emptied using a mechanical arm on the collection vehicle, instead of workers lifting and emptying waste cans by hand. C. Martin Trucking’s automated trash collection service involves trash being picked up by one single driver per truck.

How do residential trash collection services work?

Each home will be supplied with one of our signature brown C. Martin Trucking waste collection carts on wheels. We ask that you set your cart out the night before your trash collection day. Residents must ensure that the waste carts are set out in their proper location curbside and accessible by the new automated trash collection vehicles. Complete conversion of our customer base to the new system will span over a three-year process.

Why change from the existing manual trash collection system?

Studies have found the automated collection system compared with the manual collection system provides a safe and more attractive neighborhood, creates a safe and healthy work environment for employees, provides a more accurate service based upon the amount of trash one disposes of. Due to the design of the cart, residents will find that they have less litter, odor and pest problems because the durable lid always remains on the cart. Also, automated trash carts are convenient, easy to roll, and extremely durable.

**Solid Waste collection is one of the most dangerous professions in the U.S.**

Automated trash collection eliminates manual loading of garbage, thus reducing job-related injuries to the collectors, as well as significantly reducing expenses related to employee injuries.

What if the trash cart gets full before collection day?

National surveys indicate the 95-gallon cart is adequate for the average household. Each container will hold the equivalent of three (3) normal trash cans. It is important that you place all household garbage inside the cart so that the operator can utilize the mechanical arm to lift the container and empty it. If you have an unusual amount of garbage that will not fit in the residential trash cart please notify us.

Where do I place the wheeled trash cart on collection day?

To remain as efficient as possible, the truck driver does not exit the vehicle; therefore, proper placement of the cart is essential. Please allow at least 4 feet of clearance around the cart to allow for proper collection. Place the cart at the end of your driveway, at the edge of the street.

KEEP THE SILVER METAL BAR TOWARDS STREET and the handle facing your house;
please also keep the trash cart away from any of your property (mailboxes, shrubs, large rocks etc.)

*The collection driver will tag all residential trash carts that do not follow proper container placement procedures.

What happens if my trash cart is damaged, lost or stolen?

Every cart has a serial number and is electronically tagged so the cart can be traced to each house address. Cart problems associated with normal wear and tear will be repaired by C. Martin Trucking. However, any residential trash cart that is stolen or damaged through neglect or misuse will be replaced at the property owners' expense. Residents are responsible for keeping the cart clean, removing the cart from the street after collection, and storing the cart in a safe place.

What kind of trash can I put in the automated cart?

All household garbage items may be placed in the cart. It is also recommended that garbage items be bagged and tied, then deposited in your container. This practice will keep your container cleaner and minimize odors. Do not load your cart with hot ashes or coals, household hazardous waste or medical waste, paint, or any yard waste such as bagged or loose grass, leaves, or small branches.

My cart is dirty.  Can I get a replacement?

Keeping the cart clean is the responsibility of the homeowner. If you bag all your trash, maintenance is minor. An occasional washing with water and a little ammonia or disinfectant cleaner will keep your container odor-free.

How do I dispose of bulky waste?

The customer must notify C. Martin Trucking for scheduling of bulk waste collection.
Anything outside of your cart must be called into the office.
